Minimalism though simple and unadorned, is not boring, but can be very attractive and achieve beautiful results.

In this article, we explore the minimalism in the context of wallpaper designs. Particularly, minimalist color and monochrome wallpapers. A minimalist color scheme is normally limited to 2 or at most 3 colors, while monochrome is having only one color represented by differing hues, tints and shades.  Minimalist wallpaper designs are good desktop backgrounds because they are relaxing to look at and gives you less clutter on your desktop.

As soon as we get hold of any new gadget, we normally want to customize it right away. And for all of you lucky new Apple iPad owners, here’s a mega treat for your new toy. We have here over a thousand gorgeous iPad wallpapers appropriately sized 1024 x 1024 pixels.

So why is 1024 x 1024 the perfect wallpaper resolution for iPad if it’s screen resolution is just 1024 x 768? It’s because your iPad can be used horizontally or vertically. When you turn your iPad from the horizontal to vertical orientation, or vice-versa, it automatically rotates its wallpaper to match its orientation. And it doesn’t resize its wallpaper to fit its new orientation. So you will need exactly 1024 x 1024 to cover both orientations. And there will be 4 squares, sized 128 x 128 on 4 corners of your wallpaper image which will not be seen in your iPad in either horizontal or vertical orientation.

The white area in the middle is the visible area at all times (horizontal and vertical orientation). The green squares on four corners are the non-visible 128 x 128 pixel sized area. Sorry for posting this one a little late. I forgot about February having only 28 days. Anyhow, here are five March 2010 desktop calendar wallpapers that you can still use for the remaining days of this wonderful month of March. March is the first month of spring. My favorite season of the year. Spring brings us warm and sunny weather. It’s also the season where flower blooms and reminds us of new life and how wonderfully God created everything around us. So the first three wallpapers are spring season inspired. The fourth wallpaper is St. Patrick day inspired which is also one of the biggest celebration held in the month of March. It’s a celebration not just for Irish people but for everyone inspired by the Irish tradition of faith in God no matter what.

Time really flies so fast. I never realized until yesterday evening that I have to do my monthly calendar desktop wallpapers for January 2010. So I hurriedly made three. And as midnight hits today, we all enter January 2010 with new dreams, goals, and high hopes for a blessed new year. Everything from the previous year, especially bad ones, can slowly be forgotten as we forge a new year filled with goodness!

The first calendar wallpaper is all about the universe celebrating new year with stars shooting like fireworks. Special thanks to Qbrushes for their wonderful celestial and star brushes. The second and third calendar wallpapers are all about the coming year 2010, which according to chinese astrology is the year of the tiger (metal) which most people predicted to bring far reaching changes for everyone, hopefully for the better.

As an added bonus for the new year, I am including all source files for download which you can use for a lot of your design projects or for simply modifying them to create your own custom desktop wallpapers. The first calendar wallpaper is in layered Photoshop file while the last two are in Adobe Illustrator.

I’m always fascinated by fantasy and science fiction illustrations. I am not a sci-fi and fantasy novel fan, but I always find myself staring in awe and admiration at Asimov science fiction book covers and artworks by known fantasy and sci-fi masters like Fred Gambino, Chris Moore, David Mattingly, Boris Vallejo and Luis Royo.

Fantasy and sci-fi artworks are very inspiring even for non fantasy art fans. You can’t help but admire those magical and sometimes muted colors, the softness and sometimes graininess texture in comparison to contemporary flat colors and harsh lines of regular artworks and designs.
